Vasco lining up details to loan Swiss midfielder to Canadian club in MLS
TORONTO — A new midfield reinforcement is heading to Major League Soccer. According to an exclusive report from Pitchside US, confirmed by journalist Carlos Berbert, Toronto FC has agreed to a loan deal for Maxime Dominguez, a 29-year-old midfielder from Vasco da Gama.
The Swiss midfielder joins the Canadian club on loan until the end of the 2025 MLS season. The agreement includes an undisclosed purchase option, and Toronto FC will cover the player’s wages throughout the loan period.
From Vasco to Toronto
Dominguez signed with Vasco da Gama in September 2024 after a stint with Gil Vicente in Portugal. The Brazilian club acquired him permanently for approximately €1.5 million, and he signed a four-year deal.
Before arriving in Brazil, Dominguez played for Servette, Zurich, and Lausanne in Switzerland, as well as Miedz Legnica and Raków in Poland. In the 2023–24 season with Gil Vicente, he made 36 appearances, scoring 6 goals and adding 5 assists.
Since joining Vasco, he has struggled to secure a consistent role. In 11 appearances, Dominguez has averaged just 35 minutes per game, scoring one goal. In January 2025, he registered one assist and led the team in key passes (6) over four matches.
Toronto FC’s Situation in MLS 2025
Toronto FC is off to a difficult start in the 2025 MLS season. After six matches, the club has two draws and four losses, scoring just six goals while conceding 12. Toronto sits second from bottom in the Eastern Conference with two points.
Their next match is set for Sunday (6) against Inter Miami at Chase Stadium, as part of Matchday 7.
