After a great run with the Greenies from São Paulo state, the status of forward Rony’s at Palmeiras remains unresolved as speculation about a potential transfer to a top tier domestic club gains traction nationwide.

Despite a monumental career with the team who broke him into stardom, the forward has struggled for consistent form and playing time in 2024, leading to questions about his long-term role at the club. Reports, like this YouTube video, now link him to Vasco da Gama, adding a new layer to ongoing discussions.

It was initially believed Rony was heading to Atletico in Minas Gerais, but competing offers from the two clubs gave the Rio team an upper edge on the deal, making Vasco the primary contender for Rony's services.

Limited Role at SE Palmeiras

With long time coach Abel Ferreira under fire for the team's lost championships in 2024 and a slow start in the State championship in 2025 has seen Rony’s involvement in Palmeiras’ starting lineup decline significantly, since the beginning of this season.

He was left out of key matches, raising speculation about his standing with Abel and the rest of the Palmeiras coaching staff. Then, there's Club president Leila Pereira, who recently stated that Rony’s cycle at Palmeiras may be nearing its conclusion, further fueling uncertainty about the forward's role going foward with the Porcos.

It's speculated that in the recent past, Rony declined a transfer to Fluminense, Vasco's long-time rival, despite interest from Rio's tricolor team. By declining such offer, Rony was sending a message to Palmeiras indicating a preference to stay at the club.

But now, with playing time becoming an issue and following Leila Pereira's very public remarks, it's to be seen what the future holds for Rony, with now Vasco emerging as a potential new destination for the striker, and a change to lift his career at a club that struggled to compete in 2024.

Palmeiras Quiet on Rony... So Far

Palmeiras is yet to confirm any negotiations regarding Rony's departure, but it is clear that his diminished role suggests a transfer is highly likely, perhaps imminent. Whether Vasco will make a formal offer or another club will enter the fray is a fluid matter, but all signs point to Rony's time at Palmeiras to be nearing its end.

Rony's Stats with SE Palmeiras

Overall, during his career, Rony has amassed stellar numbers withe Palmeiras. He's logged a total of 284 matches, scoring 70 goals and assisting another 36. Very few strikers have had the success and longevity of Rony over the last year, but it's clear that his production has diminished with both parties now looking for resolution after a long time together, winning championships all over South America.
