FACUNDO TORRES LEAVES PALMEIRAS DESPITE SOME SHINE

Facundo Torres is a Uruguayan striker who gained international attention with standout performances at Peñarol before joining Palmeiras in early 2023. Known for creativity, speed, and finishing, he was seen as one of South America's most promising young players on his arrival in São Paulo.

From his first Palmeiras sessions, Torres quickly adapted to the play style—focused on possession, movement, and pressure. His versatility as both a wide and central player made him valuable, as the coach used him in multiple formations to break down defenses and contribute to goals.

Throughout his time at the São Paulo club, Facundo Torres built a distinguished career in national and international competitions. In the Brazilian Championship, he became São Paulo's top scorer in 2022 with 15 goals and registered the most successful dribbles that season. In the Campeonato Paulista and Copa do Brasil, he scored in three consecutive knockout matches and provided four key assists, helping the team qualify for the semifinals.

Alongside his performance in domestic tournaments, Torres played an important role in Palmeiras' campaigns in continental competitions, especially the Copa Libertadores, where his contributions were key in the team's progression to the semifinals. His ability to appear in spaces between the lines, combined with his sense of opportunity inside the opponent's area, helped the team resolve balanced games, secure narrow victories, and advance in decisive stages. Even in matches with greater physical and tactical demands, the Uruguayan knew how to adapt to the game's needs, also contributing to the defensive recovery and ball circulation.

Facundo adapted to Palmeiras' style of play and became a fan favorite for his offensive creativity, key goals, and dedication, earning recognition as one of the club's notable foreign players in recent seasons.

While developing his game and increasing his importance within the squad, Torres also dealt with the pressure that comes with wearing one of the most prestigious jerseys in Brazilian football. This experience, far from inhibiting him, seems to have strengthened him, as his technical and mental evolution was reflected in consistent performances throughout different phases of the competitions.
