MLS Week 2: Orlando City x Toronto FC recap

The Lions dominated from the start, establishing a strong lead in the first half and maintaining their grip on the game by keeping Toronto under control throughout the second half.

The fans who attended the Inter&Co Stadium for the Orlando City games over the two weekends were certainly treated to a goal fest. Once again, the final score was 4-2, but this time it was the home team that came out on top. The excitement and action on the field palpable, leaving no room for complaints.

Oscar Pareja's team took the lead with a brilliant free kick by Cesar Araujo in the 33rd minute. The Uruguayan midfielder's shot the post before bouncing into the net, giving them the advantage.

Two minutes later, Kyle Smith faced intense pressure from Toronto's relentless attack near Orlando penalty area. The center back launched the ball forward and landed perfectly at Alex Freeman. In his first start for the Lions, the young defender fearlessly took on the goalkeeper Sean Johnson skillfully placed the ball in the back of the net.

Orlando City vs. Toronto FC - 2nd Half

In 63rd minute, the Lions netted their third goal with an impressive play. Cesar Araujo provided a brilliant assist to Ojeda from his own half. The Argentinian forward found himself with plenty of space to advance towards the goal and face Sean Johnson. With skillful dribbling, he maneuvered past the goalkeeper and confidently placed the ball into the net.

However, Federico Bernardeschi did not give up. The Italian player from the Canadian team utilized the corner kick to direct the ball onto Sigurd Rosted's head. The center back scored immediately after returning to the pitch, following a head collision with Eduard Atuesta a few moments earlier.

Toronto's goal might have raised some concerns among Lions fans following last week's outcome. However, shortly after replacing Ojeda, Dagur Thorhallsson scored the fourth goal for Orlando City. Luis Muriel found the Icelandic player entering the box behind the defenders.

In a conclusion to the night, Deybi Flores seized an opportunity from a rebound off Orlando's defense and fired a stunning long-range shot into the net. Despite his spectacular goal, it was too late to turn the tide and mount a comeback.

What's Next for Orlando City?

After playing two consecutive home games, the Lions will now travel to New York. They are scheduled to face New York City next Saturday, March 8th, at 7:30 PM (local time). On the same day and time, Toronto will also be on the road, playing against Cincinnati.
