Leading up to the match, head coach Steve Cherundolo voiced concerns about his squad’s fitness level against a fully prepared in-season opponent. However, despite the physical disadvantage, the Black and Gold went toe-to-toe with the Mexico City giants for the full 90 minutes, securing a morale-boosting win in what felt like much more than a friendly.
Goals from the always dangerous Denis Bouanga and young talent Nathan Ordaz sealed the victory, while Club América adding a goal back. Brazilian midfielder Igor Jesus lost possession deep in his own penalty area, spinning into trouble before turning the ball over to an América attacker, who easily set up Richard Sánchez for the goal.

Despite the setback, LAFC remained unfazed and nearly added a third but the game ended. Hugo Lloris showed he is still one of the top goalkeepers in the league, securing the moral win for his team.
Nathan Ordaz Breaks Out
The young Salvadorean Homegrown showed he can compete for a spot among LAFC's star-studded roster. Celso Oliveira and Erik Hultstrom discussed how the player adds much needed depth for the MLS side.
After the final whistle, a small scuffle broke out as Brian Rodríguez, formerly of LAFC, confronted Ordaz after the young forward unintentionally kicked a ball into the stands near América supporters. Still, the Salvadoran international made his mark, proving he is ready to fight for minutes in a stacked squad.

One player who struggled once again was Olivier Giroud, who remained scoreless and quiet, mirroring his form from last season. Meanwhile, young Venezuelan David Martínez started the match and played 45 minutes before being replaced by Ordaz, who immediately made an impact.
Next up, LAFC shifts focus to the Concacaf Champions Cup, where they face Colorado Rapids in a two-leg series. While just a preseason match, this win sends a strong message—LAFC is ready for the early-season challenges, led by the ever-reliable Denis Bouanga and young talent like Nathan Ordaz, David Martinez and Igor Jesus.
