MANCHESTER — Kevin De Bruyne has officially announced that the 2024–25 season will be his final campaign as a Manchester City player. In an open letter addressed to the city and its supporters, the Belgian midfielder confirmed his departure after a decade with the club.

De Bruyne, 33, joined Manchester City in 2015 and quickly became a cornerstone of Pep Guardiola’s era. He remains the last active player from the squad Guardiola inherited in the 2015–16 season.

“These will be my final months as a Manchester City player,” De Bruyne wrote. “Football led me to all of you—and to this city… we won EVERYTHING.”

During his 10-year tenure, De Bruyne won 18 major trophies with the club, including five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five Carabao Cups, and the UEFA Champions League in 2023. He also helped City lift the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup in 2023.

Statistically, De Bruyne has been unmatched in England’s top flight. Since his Premier League debut, he has created nearly 300 more chances than any other player. His vision, passing range, and consistency helped redefine the role of a modern attacking midfielder.

Off the pitch, De Bruyne thanked the Manchester community for embracing his family, writing that the city would always be home. “Manchester will forever be on our kids’ passports—and more importantly, in each of our hearts,” he said.

De Bruyne’s departure marks the end of an era at Manchester City. As the final member of Guardiola’s original squad, his exit closes a chapter that transformed the club into a global powerhouse.

The FIFA Club World Cup and the remainder of City’s domestic season will now carry added significance for both player and supporters.
