The final of the Canadian Championship this Sunday was worthy of cinema - and a lot of resistance. Under a heavy blizzard in Ottawa, Atlético Ottawa beat the Cavalry 2-1 and won its first national title in history, with spectators on the pitch.

In the first few minutes, heavy snow forced the referee to interrupt the game. With the field completely covered in white, some players and members of the coaching staff picked up shovels and began to clear the snow, in a rare scene in professional soccer. The orange ball was the solution found to guarantee visibility in the middle of the ice.

When the game restarted, Cavalry opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, with Fraser Aird converting a penalty. But the moment that went down in history came soon after. At 39, after an unpretentious cross, David Rodriguez positioned himself in the area. He hit a spectacular bike in the snow, tying the game to applause and disbelief from the fans frozen in the stands.

Over time, with the storm easing, the number 10 jersey decided again. In a quick counterattack, he received an in-depth shot and finished with the category after the goalkeeper left, guaranteeing the upset and the title.

Founded in 2020, Atlético Ottawa was already runner-up in 2022 and is now celebrating its definitive award. The cast includes the Brazilian Gabriel Antinoro, a native of Brasilia, who built his entire career in Canada and participated in the winning campaign.
