HARRISON, N.J. — Tierna Davidson, a starting center back for NJ/NY Gotham FC and the U.S. women’s national team, will miss the entire 2025 NWSL season after suffering a torn ACL.

The club confirmed this week that Davidson, 24, sustained the season-ending knee injury during a match last Friday. The setback comes just three games into Gotham FC’s NWSL campaign and is a major blow to a defense that relied heavily on her presence and leadership.

Davidson previously missed the 2022 season with a similar injury. This latest ACL tear not only rules her out of the NWSL season but also sidelines her from U.S. women’s national team activities throughout 2025.

Signed in the offseason, Davidson was expected to be a key piece in Gotham’s defensive rebuild under head coach Juan Carlos Amorós, who recently renewed his contract with the team. Her ability to read the game and organize the back line had already been evident in her early performances.

The injury also disrupts the plans of the USWNT coaching staff, who had been counting on Davidson as a central figure in the team’s preparations for the 2026 cycle, including the Olympic qualifiers and other international fixtures.

Davidson has earned 51 caps for the national team and was part of the 2019 World Cup-winning squad.

Gotham FC is expected to provide additional updates on her recovery timeline in the coming weeks.
