On Saturday, September 13, Mexico will once again stop for the Clásico Nacional. At the Estadio Azteca, América and Chivas meet in a clash that transcends the Liga MX standings and goes long into the history of both teams.

Las Águilas enter on a four-match winning streak in Apertura 2025, fueled by confidence but not without its bumps on the road this year. André Jardine’s side combines an explosive attack led by Henry Martín and USMNT scorer vs Japan, Zendejas with a back line that thrives under pressure but has struggled earlier in the season.

Chivas, meanwhile, arrive under scrutiny. Gabriel Milito’s men have only one win in six matches and continue to struggle for midfield consistency. Still, their strategy leans on intensity and counterattacks in hopes of unsettling América in the capital.

Cultural weight makes the rivalry even larger. América symbolizes modern dominance, while Chivas carry tradition and an all-Mexican roster, but most of Chivas accolades have been in a distant past. Beyond Mexico, the rivalry resonates strongly in the diaspora, with a special edition scheduled for Glendale, Arizona in October.

“After almost a decade without playing in Phoenix, we’re thrilled to return… and in a match of this magnitude, with our fans in the U.S., it fills us with pride,” said Chivas sporting director Javier Mier.

More than just three points, this Clásico is about identity, belonging, and symbolic power and a game that many Mexican Americans can't miss. Add the Canelo Alvarez title fight against Terrance Crawford the same weekend and fans of Sports all over can't wait for a packed schedule. The question is, will América defend their supremacy or will Chivas fight to prove they can still stand tall at the highest level?
